I feel privileged to be the founder secretary of Association of Cytologists of Maharashtra (ACM), affiliated state chapter of Indian Association of Cytologists. The inception of ACM is like a dream come true as it was long overdue. This forum has been created to promote and sustain interest in cytology within the pathologists’ fraternity of Maharashtra. With the help of various ancillary techniques, cytology has evolved over time from the simple study of cell morphology to the molecular level. And the objective of ACM is to be that portal through which practitioners, postgraduates, cytotechnicians and cytotechnologists can consolidate their basic knowledge of cytology and its meaningful application in routine practice, and also update themselves about the recent advances. It will therefore be the constant endeavour of ACM to provide a platform where cytopathologists with expertise can come together to share their experiences with those interested in cytology, and young budding professionals and postgraduates can present their research work.
With its commitment towards the propagation of cytology, ACM has already held two annual conferences in 2018 and 2019 under the able leadership and guidance of luminaries in the field of cytology such as the past president of IAC, Dr. M. M. Kamal and Dr. Shubhada Kane. The initiative of hosting the first conference of ACM was taken by one of the premier institutes of India, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The second conference (MaCyCON), was hosted by the prestigious LTMMC & LTMGH, Sion, Mumbai, where national speakers of repute and world renowned cytopathologist, Dr. Dina Mody shared their knowledge and experience with the delegates. Various other activities including CMEs and workshops have been planned in the upcoming academic year.
Cytopathologists from all over Maharashtra have shown keen interest in the formation of this new Association and I am sure ACM will go a long way. I would appeal to all the pathologists with interest in cytology to strengthen this blossoming ACM by becoming life members and whole-heartedly participating in its activities.
